VB.Net Shoutcast Server is an example of a VB.Net application that implements the basic shoutcast mp3 server functionality. Using the Shoutcast protocol, it is able to provide a library of mp3 audio streaming that can be shared through your LAN or the internet. It has a web page (HOSTING.html) which will redirect you to a stream URL when the page is loaded. The advantage of this is that you don’t need to fiddle with settings to make it work as you want.
NOTE: There is a small number of bugs that I will be fixing over the next few days, but its basically complete.

In visual studio you can run it directly, or you can distribute it over a lan and run it from there. You can even run it from your ipod or iphone if you want.

The VB.net Shoutcast Server project has:
Multiple mp3 audio streams that can be called up using a web page that is called up when the page loads.
A web page that can be pointed to for the streams.
An example mp3 file that is included in the project.
A.ini file that will host the streams and the web page.
File List:
MBFiles.txt – Lists all of the mp3 audio files that can be played.
ShoutcastServer.dll – The DLL that holds the functionality.
ShoutcastServer.exe – The exe that runs the application.
HOSTING.html – The web page that is called up to start streaming.

Allows you to set up streams through a web page.
Allows you to browse to a web page and when that page loads the streams start to play.
Ability to browse to the location of an mp3 file you have installed, and when that file is loaded the server will play it.
Instructions:
1. Install the Bass.net Source Distribution.
2. Download the VB.net Shoutcast Server project.
3. Build the project using your favorite build tool.
4. Run the application on your machine using the.exe.

There are times where the stream will crash and display a message „Unable to create local file handle in stream“ or something like that. It’s a little hard to explain, but when I was writing it it worked flawlessly. If it happens, it’s probably because your computer doesnt have enough hard drive space. In that case, use the „start“ option to get a new instance of the program. If that doesn’t work, double check your hard drive space.
The Console window will sometimes crash when you play the files. If that happens, just restart the program, and the Console window will re-appear.

In the previous version, which was a C# and Mono project, I made it so that when you started the program, it would automatically download an updated version if it had one. The problem was that sometimes you got like the above error because the program couldn’t download the updates.
Now this version is a Visual Studio.net 2003 project which I designed to be setup for that version of the language.

So I basically made some modifications to the source code for this version, so its faster, and a little more reliable. If you’re using a router, and your computer wont let you connect to the internet, then make sure that your internet connection is turned on. The app automatically looks for a network connection.
The automatic download updates are still there.
I still have a few things to work out like showing the download progress in the console window and showing the main form without the internet connection in the menu bar. The first is due to a bug with the vb.net compiler, and the second is because I didn’t want to flood the client with a bunch of updates when they’re not connected.
