Pea-Peach is an archiving program that offers a modular and granular approach to archiving.

The approach is modular, it offers a system of collection elements. The collection elements can be integrated with each other and with the basic archiver. In this way, collections can be dynamically created, modified and destroyed.
Also, Pea-Peach is portable in terms of the storage medium. Files can be stored on any USB, CD or hard disk drive and archives are multi-volume spanning.
Changes and updates are kept only in temporary files, as Pea-Peach archives are just files with their content.

Pea-Peach Architecture:
Pea-Peach is an archiving tool, written in C.
The core of the tool is a port of 7-zip/PEA to the Portable Executable.
Moreover, an emulated ZLIB on the PE format, specially written by Xerox, that allows transparent encryption without CPU time.
The file format is modular. It contains a header and a collection of files. Each file contains a header that links to the files corresponding to the collection.
The collections can be combined and spread across several file or over multiple volumes.
When Pea-Peach archive a file or a folder it adds a collection to the archive.
This provides a powerful system. A collection can be used by itself or to create another.
For instance, if there are already several layers, one can take from them a collection, empty out the existing collections and then add it to the archive to increase its amount.
Up to now, only a collection can be accessed, but it is not limited in the future.
The collection’s element can be referenced, managed, split/joined, archived or removed.
The elements are related to the collections, they exist and can be used only when the collection exists.
The files of a collection can be split into several (up to 2^64 byte).
The collections must share a common volume. With only one volume, its read/write permission is also connected to the others.
The collection’s elements are not limited either, their size can be arbitrary.

There is no such thing as such thing as 100% archiving solution; but that is not the case with Pea-Peach.
I make this tool to make archiving quick and simple, something that most people can do right away.
The archiving features and available modes are sufficient to backup a typical user’s data; although it can do it much more efficiently than some full-fledged solutions, leaving it suitable for even very large backup projects.

I have been using this program for months now, and I’m always amazed at how much effort I can save by using this program.

A few years later, when I needed it, I did it just in time!
Two advantages with that are that I was able to actually use this tool for what I intended to use it for (backup) and I also got experience in using the code.
