Mediterranean Diet
The Mediterranean Diet was developed in the 1940s to combat cardiovascular disease. A vegetarian version of the diet was invented in the early 20th century by Oscar Wilde and John Ruskin. The diet emphasizes vegetarianism, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, whole grains, and soy products. Many vegetarians argue that a vegetarian diet can be part of the Mediterranean Diet. The Mediterranean Diet is also sometimes claimed to have health benefits due to its moderation of alcohol consumption.
