i am trying to activate windows 10 from a cd with a trial key. i am trying to activate the trial version, but it keeps saying i have a product key that is not valid. i have tried to activate a number of times, and the same error keeps coming up. i have a product key that is valid for the operating system. it has a trial version. is there a way to activate this trial version of windows?

yes i did that last year. the one that specifically says it can activate windows 10 pro on windows 7 home. i’m still seeing it pop up whenever i activate. one site said you need to have your settings manager to „find a new key“ to install windows 10 in admin mode. that didn’t work. how can you ask a question and get a /comment/answer (and rating of 1) with no technical information?
this is a good question and i have a few thoughts on it. first, are you using the retail version of 10 or the „windows 10 insiders“. this is what i assume since you say you have a product key. the older version might be activated by the ms servers and you could be activated now.
second, it is possible that they have been rolling out the 10 insiders build to some population without the correct keys. the last build they had issues with was the build 8320 at the time. the current build is 8328. the problem is that nobody knows what keys will work on the insiders build so there is no way to fully activate. they are working on a fix.
i believe the build with the key you are using is the release build from october 10th. if you use the release build you need to install build 8328. if you have the build 8320 you do not have to install it. you can use the update service and run the windows update troubleshooting tool and it will work.
hi, i did the same thing and it’s the same problem i’m having. i’ve been trying to activate windows 10 that’s on a clean install in my office. it was all working fine then it started telling me that i’m not activated. i go to activate it using the advice from above and this is what happens: „to fix your activation issue, we need to send a windows 10 activation key to the account you are using to activate windows 10. you can use the product key from the cd you used to install windows 10.“ then i get this error message „windows 10 cannot be activated. the product key you entered appears to have been issued in a previous version of windows.“ and in the screenshot this is what i’m seeing: „windows activation is not allowed on this system. to activate windows 10 you must first activate a previous version of windows.“
