5 madeline meyer (oh, 6-2, delphos, ohio, ohio state)
high school class of 2012
went pro in 2019
before: meyer, a member of the 2012 usa volleyball high performance team, was a three-time first team all-american in high school, earning those honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior. she also lettered four times in basketball and three times in softball. meyer was a member of the junior national team in 2013, the 2014 world university games team in 2014, and the 2016 usa volleyball national team trials. she was also a member of the 2015 usa volleyball high performance team.
after: meyer kicked off her pro career in italy, then made the jump to play professionally in her home state with the ohio state university women’s team. in the 2019-20 season, her team was ranked no. 8 in the state and no. 6 in the rest of the midwest.
the second and final american-to-go pro contract is also a big one. two-time aau all-american emily gannon (senior at penn state) is now playing professionally for imoco conegliano in the 2019-20 serie a1. she is also the first american to sign on as a member of a serie a1 team. as a member of the penn state club team, gannon has been a fixture on the aces team since 2013, including helping the team win its first-ever collegiate national championship in 2017. last year, gannon led the team with 9.66 kills per set, becoming the first penn state player to finish in the top 10 in that category since 2013. she led her team in blocks and double-doubles as well.
individually, gannon holds career totals of 1,599 kills, 1,075 blocks, and 1,531 digs, including 1,263 kills, 1,032 blocks, and 1,225 digs in 2019-20.
36 amelia grant (oh, 5-5, leesburg, va., north carolina) high school class of 2016 went pro in 2018 before: grant is a five-time all-conference and four-time all-state honoree. she was the 2016 national high school volleyball player of the year, winning every conceivable accolade that season. not bad for a two-time all-american as a freshman and sophomore. she also was named a 2013 prepvolleyball fab 50 honoree. she was a member of teammags northern lights squad, which also featured her twin sister paige tapp, and her high school coach sarah seliger. the squad beat north dakota state in the state tournament and finished 31-3 in 2012 and won the 2011 high school volleyball season open title with a record of 30-2. grant also was a member of the 2013 mag fab 50 and on the 2013 prep volleyball senior aces list. she was a 2013 prepvolleyball fab 50 honoree as well as a 2013 prep volleyball senior aces honoree.
8 katie thoman (s, 5-2, gainesville, fla., florida state) high school class of 2014 went pro in 2019 before: thoman is one of the most decorated and decorated players in florida state history, with her team winning six ncaa championships and six acc crowns to go along with three beach volleyball national titles. a four-time all-american, the 2015 avca player of the year also earned first team all-acc honors and was named the acc beach volleyball player of the year in 2016. she was a member of the u.s. beach volleyball team at the 2016 rio olympics.
9 reagan carey (s, 5-2, baltimore, md., princeton) high school class of 2016 went pro in 2018 before: carey was a four-year starter at princeton, earning a spot on the 2016 national championship team and earning second team all-ivy league honors in 2016. her team beat penn, ranked no. 1 in the country, in three sets in the championship match, and the tiger volleyballers were a semifinalist at the 2017 ncaa tournament. the 2017 avca national player of the year was also a first team all-american, a first team all-ivy league selection and earned three spots on the 2017 avca national team.
