After 19 years in manufacturing, Digidesign unveiled a new Pro Tools 9 system in 2013 in three configurations: X32, X32 max, and X64. It uses a commercial PCI audio interface with eight times the digital performance of the HD 882 interface included in the HD 192 system, at a cost of US$6,300 each, and with a sample rate of up to 192 kHz (depending on the interface). It also donates one track of digital audio, an HD DSP card, and three HD RGIs that can be CC-ed, to a production for a low fee. At the same time the company introduced the Pro Tools HDX new line, composed of six plug-ins, each releasing an updated version of the one before. The X32 system has four HD interface ports and supports 24 tracks and 96 voices, the X32 max 9 interface ports and supports 46 tracks and 192 voices, and the Pro Tools HDX 16 can link up to 18 HD interfaces, supports 64 tracks and 256 voices, and provide 64 ALUs for dSP and 64 ALUs for plugins. The number of digital I/O points is limited to 128. The HDX 16 can also run Pro Tools LE if needed.
