Well, I have been using my iPad Pro (both the 12.9-inch model and the 11-inch version) as camera for the last year and a half as my primary camera. While this may appear counterintuitive, it is anything but. I’m currently an Open, Adobe Creative Cloud subscriber with all the tools I need for my work except Photoshop.

In the middle of my breakfast with a few days to go before I present in San Francisco, I email a colleague at Adob about the question I’m asked with a request to clarify my own needs. I expand upon my thoughts in a reply I compose to a request for a phone call. I suggest that he set aside time, in his busy day, to talk with me about my use of Photoshop on the iPad. As I write this review, I realize that it will be more than a year until the 11-inch iPad Pro is out of beta and available to the public. However, I’m really curious about the answer to my question and hoping that it won’t be too haphazard of an interview.

The interview that follows is our conversation as a whole, but in part, it is my current thoughts on Photoshop on the iPad. We spend a lot of time discussing the camera because it is an area that has received some interest lately. Following the discussion about the camera, we’ve covered a large portion of what I have been doing over the last few years.

As an experiment, I’ve used my 11-inch Pro to take some of my photography over the past year. I’ve created images in Aperture and Lightroom, to manage my workflow, but used the iPad Pro as my primary camera. My first experience with Photoshop on the 11-inch iPad Pro was a long time ago. I think it was 2010, when the first beta version of Photoshop Elements 8 was released and available in the Apple iTunes Store. Photo editing on the iPad was a night-and-day change from an experience on laptop computers. As a photographer, I had always used the Canon 5D mk II for small- to medium-sized pieces as well as the original 5D’s significantly larger successor.
